Insects are Hatching

As mentioned in a previous post, Lady Bugs have already gone crazy.  But also, over the past couple of day, the Box Elder Beetles (Boisea trivittata) have made their 2011 debut – On and in my barn!  Typically, this would not be a big deal.  The insects don’t do any real harm but since my office is in the barn and there are literally so many of them, I have to get them out!

For the past week, I have just swept them up and thrown them outside.  With yesterday’s peak (at least I hope it was their peak) I resorted to the shop vac.  I kept all of the lights off which made them migrate to the windows, I popped screens and got out as many as I could (along with the lady bugs) and them worked on vacuuming up the rest.  I did this off and on during the day.

Today the population in here definitely does seem lighter.  I sure hope so.  It is getting stuffy in my office and I want to open my door.
