End of Summer Newsletter - September Garden Almanac, Promotional Offer

Hello Friends,

As I write this, I kind of feel cheated.  I know that the many of you folks had unusually hot, humid and / or dry summers, but here on the farm in Northwestern Oregon, we barely had weather that you would consider summer-like.  We didn't get our first day over 90F until about two weeks ago.  And then, earlier this week, we got our first fall weather pattern with our high temperatures only reaching the low 60s.  So it feels like we only got about two weeks of summer this year.

With the coming of Fall, activity picks up.  We are working hard to make sure that we have seed to harvest, getting our work areas ready to prepare seed for sale, getting kids ready to start back to school, finishing up summer farm improvements and repair projects, and generally just trying to do more than fits in a twenty four hour day.  I am sure you have your own version of this scenario playing out in your lives.  It seems to be a typical story in our 21st Century society.  We are all just too busy.

That said, I hope that you will remember to get out into your yards and gardens, putter, let your mind wander, relax, unwind, and allow the stresses of the day to subside.  I hope that your fall gardens will continue to provide fresh and safe produce to your tables.  If you didn't get a fall garden planted this year, don't worry, there is always next summer.

I hope that you had a great gardening season and look forward to continuing to serve you in the months and years to come.

Gardening Success to You,

Mike Dunton

Check out the promotional opportunity below to save money on your next purchase.  This discount is not just for the seeds you order.  It will be applied to your whole purchase whether you order seeds or hard goods or books or candy.

What do I do in my garden in the Fall?  As the fall rains and cold temperatures arrive and many of your vegetables reach the ends of their lives, it is time to start saving seeds, cleaning up the garden, composting, planting cover crops, and getting them put to bed for the winter.  This will help to keep the soil healthy, reduce over wintering weed problems, and make it easier to get your garden going in the coming spring.  Click here for a more detailed list and more instructions on our September Victory Gardening Almanac page.
