Trip Report – Mother Earth News Fair 2012 – Puyallup, Washington

As those of you who follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook already know, we spent the weekend at the 2nd Annual Mother Earth News Fair in Puyallup, Washington.  I have read Mother Earth News since I was a kid in the ’70s so attending this event, especially to be a small part of it, was a big deal for me.

Thank you to all of the folks who stopped by our booth on Saturday and Sunday.  Visiting with you in person made the planning and preparations worth it.  We had a great time getting to know folks, talking about gardening, seeds, history, preservation, farming, and whatever else you had on your minds.  It was like visiting with neighbors over the proverbial “garden gate.”

At the show, we announced that we have added flower bulbs, tubers and corms to our product offerings.  We hope that they will be popular with our flower gardening friends with sales helping to support our seed variety preservation work. Be one of the first 1,000 people to place an order for $25 (or more) of spring planted flower bulbs and receive a free bonus pack of bulbs of our choice, valued at least $5.00.  No coupon code is required.

There were a lot of excellent speakers, presentations, workshops and products shown at the event.  Being an “exhibitor” didn’t allow us any time to see much of the Fair.  Next year we are going to make sure that we bring enough people so that we can take turns staffing the booth and actually be part-time attendees.

Not only was this our first time attending the Mother Earth News Fair, it was also the first time we exhibited anywhere.  We found out about the fair just a few weeks ago and had to get our booth designed and materials printed quickly.  I am a bit biased but I am pretty happy at how our booth turned out and how our message was presented.

End of the Show

End of the Show

After the end of the Fair, we finally got a chance to sit down.  I took the photo above as a joke because my Dad, who has had a lot of experience working shows in his life, told us to never sit down.  Actually his words were, “remember that the chairs are for the customers.”  And he was right. Standing was the best way to  meet with as many people as possible.

I have not heard the official final attendance count, but we personally got to talk with several hundred people, had a great time, and plan on doing it again next year.  I hope that you all had a great time at the show as well.
